14k Victorian Etruscan Revival Mourning Brooch | Woven Hair Locket Compartment

A 14k yellow gold antique Victorian Etruscan Revival mourning brooch. The center oval ornement has a blue enamel star with a single natural seed pearl that is surrounded by embossed metal that has the Etruscan style wire work, applied beading and a roped border. On the reverse is a glazed hidden locket compartment that contains light brown plaited hair in a weave pattern. To note that not all Victorian hair jewelry was for mourning and the hair work also represented friendship and rememberance of living loved ones too. This is unmarked but electronically tests to 14k on the body of the brooch. The pinstem and clasp are base metal. Circa 1870's.

Weight: Weighs 7.0 grams with the glass insert removed, 11.8 grams with the glass.

Measurements: 1 3/4" in length by 1 3/8" at the widest point.

Condition: Fair to good. There is some crimping and dings in the metal work on both sides. The hinge has been repaired and has a metal plate to reinforce. The damage is fairly well hidden by the metal work and is not distracting overall. The glass insert has a chip  on the right side.
