Antique 14k Onyx Cameo Brooch of God Achilles with Dragon Helmet

An exceptional antique carving in black onyx of Achilles the Greek hero of Troy as a youth. The cameo is 30mm by 22mm carved in hardstone with a left facing Achilles who has a dragon crested helmet. It is a better than average executed cameo that is high in relief beautifully carved by a master stone carver. The cameo is framed by a 14k yellow gold frame that has an engraved design. On the reverse is an early 1900's hand made safety lever clasp that is marked 14k on the top. Circa approx 1910 - 1920s range.

On the cameo subject of Achilles who was a Greek hero of the Trojan War, a main character and a great warrior of Homer's Iliad. He was also the most handsome of the heroes Troy, as well as being very feminine and is typically depicted with delicate female features. Condition: Excellent. There is no chips on the cameo, not even under 10x magnification.
