Description
A mid 1900's carved nephrite jade bamboo branch pendant. The trunk of the tree is carved with tear drop shaped cabochon leaves on gold plated base metal.
The bamboo plant has many symbolic meanings in Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian cultures, including good luck. Giving a gift of bamboo was also giving a friend the gift of good fortune; bamboo is symbolized as the ingredients for a happy life of happiness, Wealth and Longevity. The good luck Bamboo is often used in arrangements with specific numbers of stalks to represent different meanings where one stalk would represent general good luck. Circa, 1950's.
This was originally a brooch that has been converted to a pendant to make it a more wearable option. The simple conversion was done in a way that can be reversed but the C-clasp was removed. The style image of the bamboo tree has the brooch superimposed on it (anther words you are not buying the whole branch in the picture, just the brooch you see in the other two images).
