Description

A sterling silver with a gold wash Victorian style gate bracelet with heart shaped padlock.  Gate bracelets became popular during the Victorian era symbolizing faithfulness and fidelity. The term ‘gate’ bracelet refers to the design of interlocking bars or panels. These panels are said to resemble the gates and fences of an English manor. They were historically given to women as a sign of fidelity and faithfulness to her beloved when separated for an extended period, such as for the army. The men would lock the heart-shaped padlock clasp and take the key. The bracelet was worn until is was unlocked upon his return.

On this bracelet there are four rows of bars, the two outer rows have a twist in the panels. The padlock clasp is missing the key. However the lock still is a working clasp and it's pushed closed to snap into place and pulled to open by friction.  It is signed by the maker LC, sterling, London assay and 1977 for date of manufacture.

Measurements: The bracelet measures 7" in length by 1/2" in width.

Condition: In excellent condition with no wear to the gold.
