Description
An antique 14k yellow gold swallow locket with large bail. The front has a 3-dimensional figure of a bird on a branch that is all hand formed and etched. The swallow in Victorian symbolic language is of hope, fertility and renewal of life. Further, the Romans believed the swallow to be a totem bird to mothers in sorrow as it was said the swallow embodied all the young, innocents who died during childbirth. It is unmarked but electonically tested. The interior does not have the original glass inserts. Circa 1860's.
