Description
You will receive 12 Vintage Western Germany silver opal colored harlequin patterned opaline glass cabochons from a warehouse buyout of old stock from between the late 1950s - 1970s. Found in their original packaging. Sold by the dozen.
Each piece has its own unique mix of silver foil that is layered with an opaline glass and a spatter of colored glass. The cabochons have exceptional color flashes of pinks and orange to golden colors, and a little blue for the most realistic imitation opals. Slight variations in size and imperfections in the glass will make each one of a kind as it is individually hand made. Measuring approx 4.0mm to 4.3mm in diameter with unfoiled domed backs that have a depth of 3.5mm. The profile can best be described as being shaped like a double domed cabochon.
The West German glass industry existed from 1949 to 1990. Production peaked particularly after WWII through the 1950s and 1960's but continued on until Germany was reunited. Imported by Kittay & Blitz Inc., New York, whose owner deceased in 1977 and this is from their old stock.
