Description

A stunning and very popular vintage 1940s Retro to mid century era floating opal necklace. This large size opal chip pendant is made with a glass teardrop shaped globe that is liquid filled, within is floating opal chips throughout it like a snow globe. The opal chips have an eye-catching play-of-color that is predominantly green and orange with hints of red and yellow. The bail is a tulip shaped engraved cap that resembles four leaf like petals. The bail is marked 12k gold filled and the pendant is assumed to be gold filled also. It electronically tests as 10k but the way the metal was oxidized when found, it had a distinctive gold filled patina that has been polished off. There seems to be some confusion on these as to the metal content and they are being described anywhere from gold plated to 14k gold on the exact same unmarked pendants. The 24" long by 2.0mm in diameter rope chain is also 12k gold filled and appears to be original.

Condition - Good vintage condition. No wear to the gold fill.

Measurements - The pendant including the bail is  34mm in length by 11 mm in width.
