Description
Presented here is a Continental-style watch chain dating back to the 1920s, crafted in the renowned brickwork pattern by locksmith-turned-jeweler Jakob Bengel. His creations gained immense recognition during the German Bauhaus movement and remain highly coveted by collectors today. This particular chain features the iconic brickwork design made famous by Bengel, constructed from a German silver alloy with a lustrous chrome-plated finish, and retains the original fob. The fob and the lower section of the chain are adorned with Czech goldstone glass inlays, although the top inlay is unfortunately missing. Notably, the jump ring connecting the swivel watch clasp is stamped with 'Germany,' further attesting to its authenticity.
Condition: In good vintage condition with one goldstone glass insert missing and a minor bar in the chain link. The metal has very slight surface scratches to the chrome finish of the chain which is typical for light use on an item on this age. The loss of the goldstone inlay is reflected in the price currently. However I am sourcing a piece of glass to cut for a replacement and the price will go up when the restoration occurs if the watch chain does not sell before one is found.
Measurements: The total length is 6" including the swivel clasp by 1 1/8" wide. The brickwork section is approx. 1 1/2" long by 1" wide, finished with a 24mm long dog clip at one end and an 18mm wide fob at the other.
Shipping: Ships in 1 to 3 days.
